PC/OS 2009.4 and beyond

With PC/OS 2009.4 several changes are coming down the pipe. The XFCE desktop has matured to the level where GNOME tools are no longer necessary and XFCE has reached the par that users have expected with the desktops out of box. Further updates and application updates are coming. We will no longer consider doing a unstable branch of PC/OS. This will help with not cusing confusion among users and keep support issues down. We will stay just based on LTS releases from now on. PC/OS Open64 is the obvious exception at this point.PC/OS 2009.4 will be...

PC/OS Roots

PC/OS roots are derived from the Ubuntu distribution. Ubuntu is created and maintained by Canonical Inc. and has a vast community support system. By basing PC/OS on this outstanding base we cover two grounds, a lot of the problems and fixes are in line with Ubuntu. Many fixes for Ubuntu and Xubuntu work on PC/OS. All software compiled for Ubuntu runs on PC/OS and should anything happen to PC/OS users can still get their fixes from Canonical and maintain their distribution and makes the migration smoother.
